With the economy in the dumps you might be looking for ways to cut back this Christmas. Trust me, you’re not alone. Or, you might be tired of the consumerism that permeates Christmas. Either way, let us offer you an alternative to Christmas giving.
Heifer International is a fantastic organization that seeks to end hunger in the world. That’s a huge goal, but not out of reach when you help communities obtain a sustainable source of food and income. Heifer International seeks to do this by “passing on the gift” (of a goat, heifer, sheep, llama, water buffalo, etc…). As people share their animals’ offspring with others – along with their knowledge, resources, and skills – an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance is created that reaches around the globe.
So, instead of spending a thousand dollars this Christmas for family gifts, why not go in together and buy a sheep or two for a community in need? What a great way to explain to your kids what Christmas is all about. Now that’s the spirit of Christmas!
