For the first two years of my son’s life I refused to pay someone to cut his hair. I was convinced that I could do it just as well myself…and it was free. I was doing okay for awhile (using the same scissors that I use to wrap birthday gifts) until he would not sit still and would not let me touch his hair (much less get close to him with scissors).
When his shaggy hair started to impair his vision, I decided it was time to take action and visit the new kids salon in town, Pigtails & Crewcuts. It was a great experience! The store is colorful and super kid friendly. Instead of sitting in a chair, the kids sit in firetrucks, planes, cars and more. At each station a flat screen television played a Thomas the Train movie (requested by my little one) and kids were given animal crackers and/or suckers. When one kid started screaming, an assistant came over and started singing and blowing bubbles…this was as entertaining as the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus. After the haircut, they were escorted to the treasure chest where they could pick a prize and were encouraged to stay and play with the train table or in the play room.
In the end, his new haircut looked great, my son loved the experience and his new treasure. It was the best $13 I had spent in a long time. Many kid salons have special deals for your little one’s first haircut! So if you are tired of fighting with your child, begging him or her to sit still as you trim their hair, or are just looking for a fun and special place to cut those dead ends, see if there is a kid’s salon in your area. Pigtails & Crewcuts and Cool Cuts for kids are some of our favorites.

kidletnation.blogspot.com says:
There’s a chain of salons for kids in Toronto but I can’t remember the name for the life of me… one just opened in Vancouver and the parent company owns the Blo salons which do nothing but blow dry hair.
I don’t understand it.
I suspect the popularity of these places will wane significantly as the economy continues to struggle.
Put a bowl on the kid’s head and cut… or better yet set the clippers to 1 and go to it.
