Wednesday Night, Date Night

October 9, 2008

As I write this, I’m watching a Jon & Kate Plus Eight marathon.  How do they do it?  Seriously, how do they not go crazy?  They had twins, then tried for ONE more and were blessed with SIX!  Watching this show makes me want to call them up and offer to babysit for one night so they can go out alone and hang out.

Being intentional about a Date Night, Girl’s Night, or ‘Whatever’ Night is a necessity!  I’m very thankful that my husband and I set a precedent early on in our marriage that we would, on Wednesday night, always go on a date.  Thankfully, 7 years, 2 kids, 3 moves, and countless jobs later, we still make this a priority.

Wednesday night is our night.  We either hire a babysitter or drop the kids off at the grandparent’s house and go out for 2-3 hours.  Generally, it’s dinner and an errand we need to run.  Most of the time these date nights aren’t that romantic.  I’d hardly call a trip to the Wal-Mart Supercenter romantic, but it’s better than grocery shopping with the kids.  ’Clean up, aisle 2.  Clean up, aisle 10.  Clean up, register 4.’  Those are my last memories of taking the kids to the grocery store as my 2 year old kept dumping the goldfish out of the box.  Lovely.

Anyway, back to the task at hand.  Wednesday night is Date Night and we cherish those times we get together.  We talk without interruptions and simply enjoy each other’s company.  If you and your significant other don’t have one night a week where you can focus on each other, I suggest you try it.  Taking care of babies is draining, and this is one way to fill your cup.

Do you and your significant other have date nights?

    We do!

“Being intentional about date night is a neccessity” - I completely agree. Wednesday night is our date night as well and we find it a great way to break up the week. I can’t imagine not doing date night.

Actually, we think date night is so important that we have created this website for couples to use as a resource… http://www.thirtydollardatenight.com. The idea is to do something new every week together to keep things interesting! It doesn’t always have to be romantic - sometimes, the cheesier the better!

    Hope you enjoy it.
